These are usually good deal less populated than a Front Range and has only two or three towns across 5,000 population. A primary economic activity come ranching, mining, touristry. Fruit growing is also rife around numbers of areas along a Colorado & Gunnison rivers, including the Grand Valley. A unofficial "capital" of the American Slope is considered to become Grand Junction, located in the Grand Valley.

Historically it was a portion of fatherland of the Ute people and was a Utah Territory before its inclusion in the Colorado Territory upon its organization in 1861. Whiten settlers began arriving within prominent cost in the late 1870s and early 1880s.
